Cheryl Sinclair is a local artist who likes to explore the nature of places, people and objects experienced on her travels in China, Nepal and in her home country of Northern Ireland. She uses mixed media, and enjoys experimenting with varying effects that can be created by putting different materials together. She likes to combine drawing with painting in her work. Previously she studied Art and Design at Manchester Metropolitan University, gaining a BA (Hons) in Embroidered Textiles and an MA in Art as Environment. Following this she completed a PGCE in Art and Design at Manchester Metropolitan University and worked for 5 years as an Art teacher in two secondary schools in England. In 2004 she worked for 2 years in China teaching English to University students. Since returning to Northern Ireland in 2007 she has worked in the higher education sector teaching art and craft courses in the community, first with the WEA (Workers Educational Association) and now with the Northern Regional College. Her time spent in China and in more recent years, Nepal, inspires her artwork. She is also interested in capturing street scenes here in Northern Ireland and drawing still life. She has worked on a range of commissions including portraits and landscapes.
